It was really nice to meet other people in the Data Science/Analytics space and see that the group is larger than I imagined.
I was a little disappointed with the balance of commercial product advertising vs actual experiences.. and even the actual experience, while very interesting, still felt like it was just another ad for a commercial product.
But as I mentioned, meeting people was the real goal of the evening and that worked well.
Thanks for organising this Fernando.. Is there a reason we don't do this once a month?
What's the topic for 2 months time?

      Hey Gil,
Well said. I agree with you with the commercial stuff.
But the discussion generated after the first presentation and the networking was great.
I think we could have some real cases from people already working or that have worked on this subject.

Hi guys, Yes, good point on the commercial product side, I’ll keep that in mind and will ensure all presenters limit commercial product discussions to a minimum and talk more about techniques, etc.. However, as HP is funding these meetups I do have an obligation to highlight their ongoing financial support and any offers provided by HP but I do accept that last night I could have limited it a bit.

Monthly meetups is limited by funding but I have been think about how to get together more often whilst ensuring members don’t have to pay for food/drink....but this may take some time. If you have any ideas that can help or if you’re organisation may be willing to sponsor/fund a night as TOTN then please give me a call on mobile [masked]) – that would be music to my ears.
For now, thanks all, I appreciate the feedback.

      Cheers,
      Fernando

Great meetup thanks for organising Fernando. I really enjoyed Garry taking us through the perils of amalgamating different stores of unclean data. There was a very human side to his big data story, from the women who needed to be able to rely on their breast scans being kept reliably to the all the stakeholders from healthcare who were losing their autonomy and needed convincing of the benefits of centralising. I’m sorry I missed the first speaker.

I am looking forward to reading my prize, NoSQL Distilled A Brief Guide to the Emerging World of Polyglot Persistence by Parmond Sadalage and Martin Fowler. Did you know Polyglot Persistence has to do with working with data which stored in different formats as would be the case in most companies today? I didn’t until 5 minutes ago and I look forward to learning more.

This was my first meet up in the group and it was really impressive. Both presenters are very friendly to approach and knowledgeable. Looking forward for more meet-up.
