Introduction

I work with a group of individuals in a collaborative consultancy called Tomorrow@work. I have been in Melbourne of the last 3 years having lived and worked previoulsy in the UK and USA and originaly from South Africa.

What got you into Big Data?

I was involved in Business Intelligence OLAP systems during the 90's and was fascinated by the complex calculations with Data cubes and ETL from different sources to establish functional DataWarehouses. I am fascinated as to how structured and unstructured data collide and if there is a way for these to be matched up in a valuable format. My past also delved into Neural Network technology which in my view has not moved much in the last 15 years.

What tools do you use?

I use the concept of Folksonomies for catagorising. Last year was part of a global rollout of RightNow technology. NodeExcel for Social Analysis. Essbase in the past. Radian6 and Buzznumbers for Social Media listening post. SalesForce for CRM.
