How much are you paying for a Data Scientist at Nordstrom? Just trying to get an idea of the salaries...

I enjoyed Iwona's presentation. Given the time available the presentation could only provide an overview of Big Data management and methods. I look forward to more in depth presentations.

    Hi Everyone,

Our latest speaker is Iwona Bialynicka-Birula, Senior Software Development Manager at eBay. See you tomorrow!

Title: Large Scale Machine Learning in Production

Abstract: Search engines, online marketplaces, social networks, dating sites... wherever you go on the web today, chances are that you are interacting with some sort of large scale machine learning system. Their foundation lies in the well-known algorithms you learn in school (or from MOOCs), but if you have ever tried to actually build such a system, you probably realized that there is much more to it than the raw algorithms. The good old-fashioned Software Development Life Cycle doesn't work when meshed with the non-deterministic nature of machine learning and big data, so during this talk you will learn how to adapt it. You will learn about some of the common challenges and pitfalls and how to avoid them and leave with a recipe for how to build a large scale machine learning system in a few "easy" steps.

I am an IT Professional that is interested in learning more about Big Data as well as meet-network with other professionals. Does anyone know what will the topic or topics of the next meeting be? About how long will this meeting last (what is the average time of a meeting)?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
