Building A Big Data-BI Dept. From Scratch–A Deep-Dive From A Company That Did!

Building out your big data business intelligence platform can be daunting.  To be clear, there is rarely a “one size fits all” solution.  There are literally hundreds of combinations to choose from and the wrong choice can bring the whole initiative to a grinding halt.  So, how do you figure out what tools to use?

Rolfe Lindberg from Double Down Interactive, a rapidly growing company in the online gaming sector was charged with this exact task.  With a strong background in both technology and finance, he understood the game changing outcome of a winning solution and the financial and emotional drain if the “solution” didn’t work.  Fortunately for Double Down Interactive, Rolfe and his team crushed it!

Join us on Thursday, May 29th for a very special Meetup.  Rolfe will do a “deep-dive” on his objectives, available tools and ultimately how he created a powerful big data / BI tool on a limited budget.  If your company is trying to figure out what combination of tools to use to create a robust solution, you will not want to miss this Meetup.

W
e are honored and excited to have Rolfe Lindberg join us on May 29th.  This promises to be a well-attended Meetup.  I would encourage you to reserve your space now!

    Hi All,

I have been attending a lot of meetups recently so I decided to write up my notes from them, both to keep a record of the information and to help bed it in.

My write-up for the May 29th meeting is here: http://workinganalytics.com/?p=155 . All reporting errors are my own. I added links to the companies and technologies referenced during the meetup, to facilitate further exploration of topics or companies. Best regards,

    Gerard

Thanks to Tom for his ongoing work in putting this meetup together. Two excellent presentations last night. In particular, the story of how Double Down developed its BI and how it came to be so important to its business in such a short time was fascinating and a useful reference. Congratulations.

Tim provided a good recap of resources, and Rolfe let us look under the hood at his timeline of building a Big Data/BI team. Great to see that you have so many active users!

Nicely done! The presenter did an excellent job describing the challenges of a start up + big data, and how the strategy grew along with the company.

Looking forward to hearing Rolfe tonight! I want to learn more about the challenges people are experiencing so that I can effectively market eSage's Quick Start big data service offering.
