Big Data Brighton - 1st Meetup!

Hi everyone,

After great work from Big Data Maestro Ollie Glass, I have taken up the reins of Big Data Brighton and am happy to announce our first meet-up as part of Brighton Digital Festival!

At the inaugural meetup, we are delighted to have guest speaker James Kinley, Solutions Architect at Cloudera. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion and we're looking forward to meeting and hearing ideas from our early members of the community.

Please join us at the iCrossing office for a 5pm start. Some refreshments will be provided but feel free to bring your own choice of tipple!

We plan to de-camp to the Black Lion pub (next door) from around 7pm

See you there!

Thanks to those who have left feedback on the first BDB event. I'll be discussing plans for the 2nd event with my fellow organisers next week, so please post any more requests/ideas/suggestions here!

Look out for more info by the end of the month as the plans come together...

Excellent first meeting with very good speaker from Cloudera. Interesting mix of people from different professional backgrounds.
Sadly, I didn't make to the pub on this occasion :-( but I will try to make time for a little communal intoxication at the next rendevous.

Thanks for getting this going. Was good to meet people and thanks also for iCrossing hospitality. I'd love to hear more about the use cases and building on the platform with analytics tools and data visualisation.

I'm likely in the minority, but I liked the 5pm start.

Very interesting to see Hadoop / hbase explained. Interesting to note that big data is relative. Billions of rows for some attendees is standard for others millions is a lot so wondered what the appetite was for presentations on basics of relational database design. Also I am happy to do a presentation on The Blink project from IBM - in memory columnar data with high compression for high speed analytics. I specialise in IBM Informix database systems as a secondee from IBM to a small specialist company. Must also say thanks to Stephen C for the tomato juice :o) In fact happy to present on anything database related. JJ

Really interesting to see activity in Big Data arena in my home town. "I just came along to swell the numbers". 18:00 start better for me!

    Thanks for arranging this Sam.

I'm in London that day, @ a conf. until 16:00. So I may be late.

If you need a space, then I'm happy to pass on this date. Otherwise, I hope to be with you by about 18:00 latest.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
