Big Data Developer Day

Join us and participate in an exclusive Big Data Developer Day hosted by the IBM Big Data team.   Open source Apache Hadoop is a great framework for distributed processing of large data sets. But there’s a difference between "playing" with big data versus solving real problems. The reality is that Hadoop alone might not be enough. Experience IBM’s enterprise-class Hadoop product, InfoSphere BigInsights, which enhances open source Hadoop with required enterprise capabilities including: analytics, visualization, security, standard SQL, enterprise HBase, developer/admin tools, learn about the role of Big Data in Motion, Big Data Exploration and more. The morning session will include interactive Big Data use case discussions, an overview of what is big data, live demonstrations of key Big Data components (Big Data at Rest, Big Data in Motion).

and, in the afternoon, get hands-on with Big Data using InfoSphere BigInsights Quick Start Edition and InfoSphere Streams Quick Start Edition with guidance from development experts. This is a unique opportunity to develop skills and learn about exciting technologies and techniques that you can immediately take back to your organization.

This event is FREE. Breakfast, Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Agenda (subject to change)

9:00 am to 9:30 am - Breakfast & Registration

9:30 am to 10:30 am - Welcome and Keynote - Big Data Overview - Predictive Asset Optimization

10:30 am to 12:15 pm - Interactive Demos - Use Cases for Insights -  Adding Value to your Organization Beyond Hadoop: An Enterprise View of
Big Data

12:15 pm to 1:00 pm - Lunch

1:00 pm to 5:00 pm - Hands-on Lab - use cases

Sadly I just found out about this Meetup and missed the registration window. Are there any future meetups on this topic scheduled in Detroit?

I work for IBM in the Managed Security Services group, and we're actually actively looking for a senior Java developer with Big Data experience, as we're currently diving in heavily into BigInsights and Streams analytics.

If interested, message me privately and check out the job posting:

Hope to make it to the next Meetup on this topic!

@Grant. IBM is sponsoring this meetup. IBM needs to ask a few questions so we can get funding for lunch and also to manage registration. We have worked to keep this a minimum. Is there a particular question(s) that are of concern? IBM is committed to embracing the meetup spirit. Some of these events get really full so we are trying to manage attendance so folks don't show up and there is no space. Or sometimes folks say they are coming and don't show up and we turn folks away. This is a general challenge sometimes with meetups so we can a few more questions to help manage that.

I just recently heard about big data. I am going to get a computer and install Hadoop on it to see what it is all about.
