Big Data Boston Message Board › CustomMade looking for Principal Core Platform Engineers
|A former member||
CustomMade is currently on the hunt for extremely talented, principal level core platform engineers. Here's our thought process on the engineering challenges we're facing: building a site where you can search through unstructured data is interesting. However, we are trying to create something even more interesting: building a site where you can search for things that do not even exist yet, then pair with someone to create whatever you can imagine. Achieving this is going to take creating the best knowledge graph two-way commerce in the industry. That's why I'm passing this along to the group. A detailed job description is below, feel free to pass along and if at all interested don't hesitate to reach out directly. I'm always happy to hop on a call or grab a coffee if only for the sake of spreading the word about what we're building!
Principal Software Engineer (Python) - Core Platform
CustomMade, a Google Ventures company, is changing the way people shop by making buying custom easier. We want to be an alternative to big box retailers by providing an online marketplace that connects consumers with artisans across the country. Take a look at our vision for this: http://www.youtube.co....
We are creating an experience where consumers can connect with an artisan maker to co-create something unique. Customers won’t see a shopping cart or checkout tag on our site. Instead they will meet thousands of makers who are thrilled about the prospect of creating something with them.
CustomMade is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our team as a backend and platform engineering lead. You’ll have the opportunity to build great software to expand and evolve a rapidly growing two-sided commerce platform already used by millions of people. Your ideas will directly impact not just the features of our platform but also how we continuously build better software.
About Our Engineering Team
The Engineering team at CustomMade is a small team of highly talented engineers who believe that creating great software is a work of passion, creativity and skill. Inspired by CustomMade’s artisan makers, we believe that small teams of empowered engineering makers can create amazing technology. Here are a few of the interesting challenges we are tackling:
• Enabling consumers to search for things that do not even exist yet
• Building the ideal knowledge graph for a custom two-way marketplace
• Creating seamless co-creation between consumers and artisan makers
Our current platform is built on Python (Django), Solr/Lucene, MySQL, and more. However, we always keep an eye out for new technologies and approaches to create the best custom marketplace.
About The Job
You will be a hands-on software engineering lead with a key voice in how we build major portions of our platform.
• Work collaboratively in small, fast-moving teams
• Serve as a technical expert for our product managers and a technical lead for fellow engineers
• Build features that let consumers buy whatever they can imagine, custom-made
• Design for scalability, resiliency and performance
• Advance libraries, modules and development approaches to engineer great software
• Contribute to automated testing approaches for APIs and workflows
You will be able to make an impact, fast. The work you accomplish will directly correlate with the success of our company. You’ll quickly see your ideas and work live, on our platform and in daily business processes. You will have many opportunities to grow your role and contributions as we continue to grow.
You’re passionate about creating efficient, high-performance web applications. While you have mastered doing this across many open source domains for several years, you have the “battle scars” to advocate why Python and Django are your currently favored technologies for this. You have been the lead engineer on several commercial projects. You love using rapid deployments to quickly bring new ideas to production (perhaps you have even contributed to open source to help others do this as well).
Ideally, you also have a working knowledge of JQuery and exposure to a few flavors of NoSQL. You have mastered Git—preferably in a continuous deployment environment using automated test tools. You are experienced with AWS (EC2, RD2, Route 53, CloudFront) and embrace the collaborative DevOps model.
