Big Data Guru meetup is a year old. And it has been a pretty amazing year. Now we have over 600 members. We had great speakers. And now our new Hadoop hackathon series is taking off (the last one had around 100 attendees).
All this wouldn't have been possible with out YOU -- the members. So please come out celebrate with us .

6:30pm - 7:00pm : Strata Conference debrief by Sujee Maniyam (organizer)

Strata Conference Debrief:
Strata conference in Santa Clara is a popular conference on big data. This year's conference (happened in Feb 2013) was pretty exciting; Sujee will go over some of 'new and noteworthy' of Strata
When memory becomes the disk for big-data...:
Big-data stack uses a variety of software that is in use today. We also need to be prepared for upcoming changes in hardware infrastructure that can significantly impact bigdata software stack. In this meetup, we will brainstorm and discuss on what happens when memory becomes the disk for bigdata. We discuss on usecases where its more practial *today* to store big-data in memory (DRAM). We also brainstorm on the impact of having bigdata "live in memory" from a programmer/sys-admin perspective. In addition, Arun will briefly introduce some of the relevant research in this area.
Sujee Maniyam is the founder and organizer of Big Data Guru meetup. He works in Hadoop eco system. He writes a free, online book on hadoop here : http://hadoopilluminated.com
Arun Jagatheesan is the Head of Intelligent Storage Department at Samsung R&D Center. Arun works on "low latency storage" for data centers and smart gadgets. Before joining Samsung, he was at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC). At SDSC, he worked on the world's first Supercomputer with NAND flash memory for storage, winning HPC Data Storage Challenge Award in 2009. He also worked on the data storage architecture for projects that had several petabytes of data
This meetup is graciously hosted by Samsung.
