The above claims to illustrate the tradeoffs with large distributed systems. However it should be noted that there is some debate around this topic.

Thanks these are great posts. The patterns article helped a lot. As for cap, I was always told "get it fast, get it cheap, get it right, pick one of three." Guess times have improved. Thanks for the links!
