I wanted to make you aware of DataKind which is taking place in September, details are below this is a chance to give back and have fun at the same time.
CALLING ALL DATA SCIENTISTS – JOIN UP FOR THE UK’S FIRST DATADIVE WEEKEND TO HELP UK CHARITIES
The first UK DataDive[/url] weekend, where data scientists come together over the course of a weekend to help charities understand their data better, is taking place at the Hub Westminster over the weekend of 28-30 September 2012. Data scientists can sign up at http://datakind.org/events/londondatadive to register their interest and to help the chosen charities transform their data into actionable insights to make a difference to thousands of lives around the UK and the world.
DataDIves have proved to be a huge success in the US with DataKind bringing together leading data scientists and selected charities to help them uncover the power of using data. The UK event will be supporting Oxfam, a global humanitarian, development and campaigning organisation working with others to overcome poverty and suffering; Keyfund, a charity that provides young people with the opportunity to practically develop the skills, confidence and self awareness needed to better reach their potential and play a positive role in their community; and Place2be, an integrated school-based service, offering swift access to counselling and other services to support pupils with emotional and behavioural problems who often miss out on receiving adequate help from statutory services.
The DataDive UK event will consist of a welcome reception on Friday evening, 28th September and a chance to hear directly from the three charities outlining their goals. Saturday will be the main day for interrogating the data and Sunday will consist of a wrap-up exercise and reporting back to the charities.
