7140 Bethesda Lane, Bethesda, MD
This up-to-38-mile ride is geared for every type of rider, but is especially sensitive to beginners. Whether you are brand new to cycling or are “returning” to cycling, this ride will likely suit you. As the name implies, this is a leisurely-paced ride along generally-flat, partially-shaded, mostly car-free trails between Bethesda, Georgetown, Rosslyn, Shirlington, Crystal City, and Hains Point (East Potomac Park).
We will make good use of the region's extensive trail systems: Capital Crescent, Custis- Four Mile Run, Mount Vernon, and Washington & Old Dominion. Along the way, there will be plenty to see. Sites along the way include the Potomac River, Key Bridge, Georgetown, Kennedy Center, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, East Potomac Park, and National Airport. As many of the trails pass through local parks, there is much flora and fauna to see as well. The ride will also include a mid-ride snack break, and time to talk about bike related topics.
In short, this is four-rides-in-one, so you can choose to ride the distance that fits your fitness level. The route is composed of four segments; feel free to ride as few or as many segments as you like. Alternately, feel free to join the ride at any of the segment starting points. Be sure to indicate your starting point when you RSVP. The ride will maintain a 10 mph pace, and depart each segment starting point according to schedule listed below:
