This ride is geared for every type of rider, but is especially sensitive to beginners. We will sustain a 10 mph pace.
In short, this is four-rides-in-one, so you can choose to ride the distance that matches your fitness level. The route is composed of four segments that total 38 miles; feel free to ride as few or as many segments as you like. Alternately, feel free to join the ride at any of the segment "starting points" listed below. Please indicate your starting point when you RSVP.
This is a leisurely-paced ride along generally flat, partially shaded, mostly car free trails between Bethesda, Georgetown, Shirlington, and East Potomac Park. We will use the region's extensive network of trail systems (Capital Crescent, Custis, Four Mile Run, Mount Vernon, and Washington & Old Dominion) as we make our way between a state, a commonwealth, and a federal district. Along the way, there will be plenty to see. Sites include the Potomac River, Key Bridge, Georgetown, Kennedy Center, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, East Potomac Park, and National Airport. The ride will also include a mid-ride snack break, time to talk about bike related topics, and ample camaraderie. If you end up "overdoing it" and prefer to end your ride early, there are Metro stations along the way: Rosslyn, Ballston, National Airport, Crystal City, and Bethesda.
