Please join us for an evening cycle around Richmond park. This will not be a guided ride around the park. Everyone will ride at their own pace. This is a good opportunity for newer riders to assess their current pace and speed statistics.
Here is the plan for our day:
1) Meet inside Richmond park, Roehampton Gate Cafe next to car park.
2) Cycle around Richmond park on the road in the anticlockwise direction, 3 laps, short break between each lap.
3) Optional drink near the park.
How many laps you do will depend on how strong you feel on the day.
This will not be a race and everyone can ride as easily or as hard as they want to.
We will be aiming to do 3 laps on the road, with a short stop between each lap for taking on liquids and to catch our breath!
We will be riding in an anticlockwise direction, that is Roehampton gate, followed by Richmond Gate, followed by Kingston Gate.
Road bikes, hybrids with slim tyres or Cyclocross bikes will be suitable for this ride.
Our average cycling speed will be approx 15mph, which translates as approx 16-20mph on flat roads and approx 7-9 mph up hills.
No one will be left behind, as everyone will ride at their own pace.
Helmets will be compulsory.
It is strongly recommended that you carry a spare inner tube in case of a puncture, every week someone has a puncture!
In terms of difficulty from (1-5(hardest)), we would categorise this ride as difficulty level 3. There are 2 hills in the park which are quite steep.
If you are not sure that you will be able to cope with the speed and the distance please email Suki for some advice.
This meetup will be weather dependent so 6 hours before the event begins if heavy rain is forecast then the event will be cancelled, please check the website a few hours before the event begins.
Please do not put your name down unless you are serious about attending. If you repeatedly put your name down for rides and then pull out or don't show, you will automatically put on the waiting list for future rides.
