Bike Month Kickoff Ride

Join us as we celebrate the start of National Bike Month!

Come out and ride with Rockville elected officials and your neighbors on this easy 6-mile ramble starting from Rockville City Hall. You'll discover the city's extensive and diverse bike infrastructure -- including some hidden paths, bridges, and tunnels you probably never knew existed! The route is paved, taking place primarily on shared-use trails and quiet residential streets.

Below is the anticipated route:

Click HERE for a larger version of the map. (Copies will also be distributed on the morning of the ride, along with ride leader contact information.)

We hope you'll join us!

--------------------------------------------------------

Please remember:

• Helmets are required for all riders on every ride.

• We strongly recommend you also bring a water bottle, cell phone, ID card, and cash or credit card for emergencies.

• We ride at the pace of the slowest rider. No one is left behind.

• Rain at the start time cancels a ride. Wet pavement does not.

• Smiles are mandatory. We dare you not to have a great time!   :)

This was a great little bike around Rockville to see improvements for bikers. Great leaders and a fun, informative time.

Can you tell the avg speed for this ride the group will travel at

    April 30, 2014

    • Carl

Jeff, because this is the first ride of the season for many participants, we will travel at whatever pace is necessary to keep the group together. That might mean at or under 10 mph. If that's too slow for you (or for others reading this post), please consider one of our faster-paced rides later in the season... Thanks, Carl

I am looking for one, too. In the meantime, fyi, I take off my front wheel and put the bike in my small sedan. I have been transporting it lately with two car seats in there, as well. I have a Nissan Sentra.

Hi Phillip, Barring any complications, mechanical issues, etc., we should be back to city hall around 11:30. Noon at the very latest.

Thank you so much Carol and Sophie for the helpful tips! I really do not know anything about bike parts or sizes. I'm a bike novice, haha

Does anyone know where I can get a good, functional temporary bike until I can afford to a good one?

You might run an ad in the Potomac Pedaler's newsletter/website to see if anyone has a bike they are not using that they would be willing to loan out. Craig's list also. Do you know what size frame you would ride?

I will likely be out of town visiting family that weekend, but if plans change and there is still space, I may join you.
