Fellow 'Bikin in Bmore members:
I am sorry to say that I am permanently canceling the Sunday Ride. One week ago, the rear wheel of my bike was inadvertently shut in a subway train door due to the negligence of the operator. The rear derailleur, and rear drop outs, and frame were so badly bent that the bike is no longer any good at all.
After much contemplation I have decided to retire from Bicycling. Due to my age (49 in two months) the cost of the sport, the time it takes to build and maintain my own bike, and the dangerous nature of riding in traffic in Baltimore I feel as though this is a wise choice.
I want to thank Penny Troutner and the staff of Light St. cycles for making the past eight years of building and maintaining my own bikes so enjoyable! It has been a great "ride". I also want to thank Penny, and all of those who have ridden with me over the past two years through meetup for making touring in a group so much fun!
I hope that all the members will have a safe and enjoyable time while Bikin' in 'Bmore!
