845 Stewart Drive, Suite C, Sunnyvale, CA
This workshop is an excellent introduction for middle school and high school students as well as adults!
Get an introduction to molecular biology with your own DNA. You will be able to SEE the normally invisible substance of life and begin to comprehend the meaning of your own genetic makeup!
In this activity, participants employ the same real–world laboratory procedure used in a variety of biotechnology research applications to extract DNA from many different organisms. You will extract genomic DNA from your own cheek cells, then precipitate and bottle it in a cool necklace. In this workshop, you will make friends who can help plan out your next biotech project, whether you want to win the science fair, work on a cool project, or change the world! No previous experience is necessary. We will teach you the required techniques and necessary background during the workshop!
This workshop includes:
· Basic lab skills, reagents and materials to make a DNA necklace
· Exposure to real research techniques
· Collect cheek cells, then extract, precipitate, and bottle their DNA
