Saturday Morning Science! Building a Lemon Battery

10 am to noon
Taught by Mark Kent

Build a Lemon Battery

When life hands you lemons instead of making lemonade lets generate power.

The fundamentals of a chemical battery can be illustrated by using a fresh lemon to build a battery. While a lemon battery will not be able to run a motor, it can light a small light bulb or LED. Batteries consist of electrodes immersed in an acidic solution, or electrolyte; the electrodes are two different metals, often copper and zinc.

Price is per child attending, parent or guardian can attend class with child for no additional fee. $30 for non-members, $20 for members of BioCurious*

Saturday Morning Science is for ages 5 and up. Under 7 require an adult present to assist them with the lab.
