Scaling the Medical Genome with Imran S. Haque, Director of Research at Counsyl

6:30 - 7:00 - Food and Networking (in the front lobby)
7:00 - 8:30 - Talk followed by Q&A

This event is part of our ongoing Business of Biotech series.

Imran S. Haque is the Director of Research at Counsyl, a startup that has developed a genomic test which prospective parents take before pregnancy to protect their children from genetic disease. Prior to joining Counsyl, Dr. Haque completed his Ph.D. in computer science at Stanford, where he worked with Prof. Vijay Pande in the Folding@home research group.

Counsyl is now doing genomic testing on more than 2% of all births in the United States.

Counsyl is a Bay Area genomics startup that's developed an affordable pre-pregnancy test which every parent can take before conception to increase their chances of having a healthy child. The test is covered by insurance and prescribed by thousands of physicians internationally. It was featured in the New York Times, named one of Scientific American's Top 10 World Changing Ideas, and won the Wall Street Journal Innovation Award for Medicine.

Counsyl has quietly grown to become one of the largest genome centers in the world, and their growth is accelerating. Many groups have done research genomes, but no one has ever done medical genomics at quite this scale before.

So if you're interested in robotics, sequencing, machine learning, or building the UI for the medical genome, come learn more at this info session.

Free food and t-shirts will be provided.

This event is FREE for active monthly members; $20 for non-members.

Hi Anitha, the networking will be taking place in the front lobby. Currently, there is no MBOTC group meetup scheduled for that day.

Will this occur *in place* of the MBOTC group or at the same time...?
