Announcing a new Meetup for BioCurious!

What: Synthetic Biology Documentary Film with Sam Gaty

When: Sunday, September 26,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Hacker Dojo
140 A S Whisman Road
Mountain View, CA 94041

Documentary filmmaker, Sam Gaty, is coming to town this week for the final leg of his Synthetic Biology tour. BioCurious will be featured as part of his upcoming documentary. In turn, I've gotten Sam to agree to join us as a guest speaker for our next meetup, where he'll give us an inside peek at what he's learned during his journey around the country, following an iGEM team and interviewing leaders in the field.

Sam will first speak about his trip and then show us some raw footage.

4:00 PM Meet & Greet
4:30 PM Sam / Synthetic Biology Documentary
5:00 PM Video

The goal of the documentary is to provide an even-
handed, and engaging, survey of the current state
of genetic engineering, in particular the emerging
field of Synthetic Biology, and the people involved
in creating this new technology. While there is still
some ambiguity about the exact definition of
Synthetic Biology it seems always to point to a new
perspective in the field of genetic science; a new
perspective that comes from engineers turning their
attention towards biological sciences the structures
of DNA. They see DNA as programable code and
biological cells as a platform upon which
manufacturing systems can be created.
This is one of the new wild frontiers of science.
