Saturday "Eat & Talk" Event - Brunch

Dear Member –

The DC/MD/VA Biotechnology Group (http://www.meetup.com/Biotechnology/) was founded on Jan 19, 2010. Our mission was to facilitate interaction amongst the biotechnology community in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area. Since then, we have expanded to nearly three hundred-fifty members on Meetup and six hundred members on LinkedIn – representing industry, government and academia. While the activity was idle over the past year, we recently re-organized and re-launched the activity.

Please take a moment to review the calendar (http://www.meetup.com/Biotechnology/#calendar) to see what events fit your schedule. Be sure to check back regularly as the calendar is constantly updated with biotech focused events in the DC/MD/VA area.

In celebration of the re-launching please join us at Matchbox Rockville on Aug. 11 at 11:30AM for the Saturday “Eat and Talk” Event. Let’s have brunch and meet other biotech professionals in the DC/MD/VA area! Please visit http://www.matchboxrockville.com/ for a menu and directions.

Thank you! Hope to see you soon.

Best,

Hi, Nicholas. I'm sorry you missed us. We networked near the bar and then were seated upstairs, on the roof. It was great to see a wide variety of folks, who either work or are interested in biotech. I look forward to hosting another "Eat and Talk" in the near-future.

Good turnout for the initial event. The brunch was on the rooftop deck on a beautiful afternoon. Good food and great people.

I dropped by, but the hostess didn't seem aware that there was a meetup. Did it actually take place?

I am interested to identify opportunity in doing diligence analysis work for venture capital firms and others who are interested to identify promising new startups to invest in. I was at Amgen Inc when it started and have experience in various areas of biotech research.

I am one of the founders of Nova Labs, the newest makerspace in DC metro area, based in Reston, VA.

In addition to 3d printing, electronics, and other maker tech, we are looking to build a Bio Lab that is accessible to the hobbyists, researchers and entrepreneurs, such as yourselves. I am interested in discussing this at one of your talks and hearing about what types of tools and equipment would be needed.

Kevin, I suggest sharing the powerpoint via "Google Docs" or "Google+" prior to the meeting as an intro or after the meeting event . That's a less costly technology. Also, one can share powerpints via a social media easily pre-event or post event via "Squidoo". Wanna look at one of my powerponts on Squidoo ? Let's start with two places and not many because starting something is far more difficult than expanding. Ideal would be to alternate between DC and Northern Virginia for breakfast. Later we can expand to MD also. But due to the metro, people who live in suburban MD, can get to a central point at DC pretty easy. Baltimore is simply too far for people from Metro DC to go typically. But what is possible later is a location near the Metro, that is easy for both. But that's later. Start now ?

good idea, but if you can do it in rotation in many places like in DC, Baltimore it will be awesome.

Great idea, Avi! Is there anyway we can arrange for brief PowerPoint presentations?
