Metronomy, Fri 21st March, HMV Institute, £18, doors open 6.30pm

The original gig going group of friends that were the inspiration for forming Gig Goers, really got into Metronomy at the Greenman festival in 2012. So we're very happy to see that they're playing in Brum, and hope you are too!

The Guardian review from January 2014 said: 'they're a seamless organism who incorporate prog, dream-pop and, on the new Never Wanted, an unexpected bash at Tom Odell-esque balladry. On the previously unheard instrumental Boy Racers, which is destined for heavy rotation in hipster coffee shops, they daringly reclaim the sound of 70s TV incidental music. It's an intriguing mix, offering almost too much to absorb – but Metronomy absolutely have a way about them.'

Tickets are available online through ticketmaster and are £15.50 plus a £2.50 (per ticket) booking fee = £18. Please note that both standing stalls and standing balcony tickets are available. Please book standing stalls tickets if you wish to be part of the group!

Update: Metronomy are due on stage around 8pm, so let's meet up in The Old Crown pub, 188 High St, B12 0LD (Digbeth) at 6.30pm. I'll have a meetup sign with me to help newcomers to identify the group.

We'll go to the gig about 7.15pm. If you're not able to make it to the pub, and are concerned about finding us at the gig, please call me on the gig goers mobile:[masked]

Glad you liked it Richard. Metronomy were ace, but I agree that the support were dreadful! A voice flatter than a pancake! Great night though, with lots of lovely people xx

I struggled to hear what people were saying in the pub (my ears or something!?) and I'm sorry I didn't catch up afterwards, as one I was out of the building, in the rain, I couldn't get back in to wait! Yes I couldn't always tell which note on the scale the support's lead vocalist was sinking at; some singing lessons might have helped... But thanks very much for bringing Metronomy to my attention! :-) Rx

Ace band, nice people, great night :)

Yep, enjoyed that. Seems like a right sort of name for the group. I particularly liked the way the bass lines moved around. I'd have liked to have heard it all a bit more clearly; I don't know if I was sat in a less than ideal place or if it was just a matter of the loudness... I didn't really rate the support act.

@ Richard: if you're referring to volume levels at the Metronomy gig, I don't think the HMV is a particularly loud venue. As it's a little larger a lot depends on where you stand. The last time I was there I was right at the front by the stage in front of a speaker stack that was taller than me. I went to bed with ringing ears, but woke up fine! If you're talking about content, then have a listen on spotify or youtube. I love Metronomy and I'm finding their new single to be a delightfully infuriating 'earworm' at the moment!!

    Hope this helps?

Thanks, Justine. It was the volume I meant. I don't want to damage my ears for anyone. I have now watched a couple of YouTube videos of them too and that's good enough for me! Got my ticket (in the balcony) and I'll see you there :-)

I'm sure you'll be fine volume-wise up on the balcony

Had been hoping to attend, but shan't be coming along if I can't get a standing ticket!

No worries. I might turn up at The Old Crown for a pre-gig pint anyway. And you never know, a spare ticket could miraculously appear from somewhere. Stranger things have happened... :)

Hi Justine, if i may ask such a question: would I need earplugs for this one?

      Because of volume or content?

Thanks for the info Richard. I've double checked and standing stalls tickets are sold out for Metronomy. However balcony tickets are still available. Does anyone else still need to buy their ticket? If so maybe a few people could go up on the balcony, while the rest of us are in the stalls. Its not ideal, but better than missing the gig!

Hello.. looks like this is sold out for standing now. If anyone needs to offload a spare ticket please let me know :)

Hi, looking forward to meeting you all! Saw Metronomy a couple of years ago when they were supporting Two Door Cinema Club, they were good then so this should be a great night. Let me know where you are all meeting for a drink beforehand and I'll come find you :-)
