CANCELLED

Sorry everyone. . . it's raining pretty hard here right now, and though the forecast looks like it might be clear at noon, I've decided to be on the safe side and cancel. There are thunderstorms predicted in the afternoon, and frankly, I don't trust Birmingham weather to cooperate and clear up long enough for us to have an enjoyable picnic.

Sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. My cell phone number is (205) 527-9203 if you need to reach me.

Best wishes,

Diana

Everyone can bring food from the restaurant of their choice or from home. If you want to bring something (desert or snacks, etc.) to share with the group, that'd be great too. Might want to bring blankets or something to sit on as well. I believe they do have tables/benches at that park, but I'm not sure how many.

After some thought, I agree w/ James. With all the varieties of vegetarians & vegans in the group, I think it's going to be hard to ensure everyone has enough to eat that meets their individual requirements. So, I think we should meet at Caldwell Park (the first park you come to on Highland Avenue if you're coming from the direction of UAB, at the corner of Highland Ave. S. & Niazuma Ave. S.) at noon.

I think a pot luck would be fun. However, I'm not certain I'll make this meet up. I'm going to try. My son will probably being playing in a tournament and if so, I can't be sure of my schedule. Those that don't know what to make could bring paper goods or drinks or something like that.

This would also allow individuals to bring stuff from home, if they want to save a few bucks. What with the economy and all.

Unless one person wants to prepare and bring a group meal, which we would all reimburse for, I am not for a potluck. Too many opportunities for food varieties that do not meet individual choices in the vegan/ovo/lacto world. Maybe everyone meet at the restaurant of the month and get to go orders and then re-meet at a nearby park to play some frisbee or just hang for a couple of hours.

Lots of possibilities -- would need to work out menu so everyone doesn't bring the same things. I think it would be a lot of fun -- not too familiar with the parks in B'ham. Brother Bryan park has picnic tables and a pavilion, IIRC. Close to 5pts. If we do it on May 2, Gabby and I won't be able to come :-(

Hey everyone! A couple of people mentioned that having a potluck lunch at a local park might be fun. Any interest in that? Let me know. . .
