Just a heads up. I just spoke to the folks at Fire + Ice. On parties of more than 8 people, they add an automatic 18% gratuity. Additionally, they said they won't split up the check, but they will take individual payments from people if we calculate the amount (i.e. you can still pay individually with cash or credit card, but you'll have to calculate the amount you owe). Which sounds completely absurd, I know. So may I recommend that you bring a calculator if you're mathematically-challenged, like I am.
Best wishes,
Diana

The results of the poll are in. . . Fire + Ice it is.
www.fire-ice.com
Fire + Ice is an improv grill style place. . . you load up a bowl with a bunch of veggies, tofu, sauce, etc. and they grill it for you. I'm told that if you request it, they will take your food to the kitchen and grill it on a grill that hasn't been used for meat.
This is in 5 Points South area in Birmingham. . . metered street parking is usually fairly easy to find on a Saturday, and there is also some parking behind the various restaurants nearby.
Meet in front of the restaurant (or just inside if it's cold outside) from 12:00 noon - 12:10 pm. If you come late, just look for the (hopefully) large group of people.
As I mentioned in my last post, my department at UAB is having our retreat this weekend, so I unfortunately cannot attend this Meetup. Gabby & Jonathan Hankins have graciously offered to be Asst. Organizers / Leaders, for which I am extremely grateful.
Best wishes & have a great time!

I just put a new poll in the Polls section of our website regarding where to meet for our next Meetup, Saturday, Feburary 7th. Our restaurant choices for February: Bottletree Cafe, Golden Temple, Rojo, and Fire + Ice (a new restaurant in 5 Points South, sort of an improv grill style place). Addresses and websites are listed in the poll (except for Golden Temple, whose menu is still in the File section of the website).
Thanks,
Diana
ETA: I just found out that my department at UAB is having a retreat the weekend of Feb. 7th, so there is a strong possibility I won't be able to attend this Meetup. If you are willing to serve as an assistant organizer / group leader, please let me know.
