Earth Hour

  • Mar 23, 2013 · 7:30 PM

Another chance to take part in the World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour, and come to a candle lit evening with food, a quiz and informal discussion.
Earth Hour began as a small World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. It is a simple idea that quickly turned into a global phenomenon. People around the world turn off their lights for one hour on the same night, to focus on the one thing that unites us all—our planet. Millions have turned out their lights to save energy and spread awareness. Some of the world's most recognizable buildings have been dark for Earth Hour, including Rome's Coliseum, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Sydney Opera House, Tower Bridge and Big Ben.

This will be a fund raising event for WWF so please bring a donation. WWF aims to stop the degradation of our planet's natural environment and build a future in harmony with nature by...
. conserving the world's biological diversity
. ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable
. promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.

We will provide a main meal and soft drinks. You can, if you would like to, bring other drinks and/or nibbles.

Officially the Earth Hour is 8.30 to 9.30pm, but come from 7.30 onwards.

Location: 3 Havelock Road Handsworth.

Rather than just mouthing off about this, I will be sitting at home in the dark, to actually make a difference.

The alternative is burning precious hydrocarbons to travel there and burning wax to feel like a hippy.
