A group where Bismarck long-timers and folks new to the area can mingle, chat, play, create, geek-out, share new ideas and culture and enjoy themselves. Our focus will be on open mindedness, cultural exchange, and year-round activities. Maybe we'll have some ethnic food potlucks and unusual board game nights. Feel free to make suggestions. Something for everyone!
PS- Families (parents with kids) definitely welcome for most non-alcohol related events.
I'm not really a big "rule" person, per se, but as this group develops, I'll probably add a few items here as the need arises.
1) Yes, we have some events that may take place at a particular church, or cover a specific topic, but we are not a partisan group and will never, ever limit ourselves to one singular viewpoint. So, to be absolutely clear, both republicans and democrats are welcome here as are progressives, liberals, constitutional conservatives, libertarians, people who want to dance around on the solstice, people who love God, guns and gold. We respect anyone who shows respect to others. If anyone in the group ever says this group is for X type of person, you have my permission to kindly correct them.
1.1) Please, challenge me to include meetups from different perspectives and viewpoints. I recognize I have a progressive parent meetup day, but if you want a moderate or conservative group of a similar nature, propose it. The only reason I'll turn down a meetup suggestion is if it is illegal, dangerous, or promotes hate.
2) Debate is awesome and welcome. Keep it respectful and thoughtful. See rule #1.
3) This is not a dating group. If you meet your soul-mate here, awesome. But if you start to make people uncomfortable with excessive, unwelcome flirtation and innuendo, you will be politely asked to stop, keep it up, and you'll be asked to leave.
4) Take care of yourselves and each other. Offer someone a ride if it looks like they need one, or call a cab. We're not a heavy-drinking group, but sometimes we do have events with alcohol. Only attend an alcohol related meetup if you are over 21. If you look young, I will card you. And again please, please let us call you a cab if you need one.
Sometimes the best Meetup Group is the one you start
