YOU ARE INVITED TO A SOUP SWAP, INVITE A FRIEND TOO!
YOU:
Bring 6-quarts of soup, frozen in plastic containers
Bring 6 copies of your soup recipe to share
Bring an item to donate to the food shelf
JEN:
Will provide tea/wine/beer, hors d'oeuvres. I will later deliver the donated foodstuffs.
EVERYONE:
Admire the quantity and variety of soups
Begin the "Telling of the soup." This is an opportunity to talk briefly about your soup's character, or how the recipe came about.
Draw numbers. Number1 person or couple picks the first soup. Number 2, the second and so on until all have selected a soup. This continues until all soup is dispersed and everyone gets to bring home 6 different quarts of soup!
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:
Some soups don't freeze well, such as ones with cream or potatoes. Keep this in mind when you are choosing your recipe.
If you have a large insulated bag, bring it to tote your newly acquired soup home!
The disposable blue lidded plastic containers work best for freezing. Plastic bags tend to get small holes as they are moved in the freezer. Use containers you do not want back.
Everyone should bring at least 6 quarts and will bring 6 quarts home. This also means you can make 6 quarts of ANOTHER soup (total of 12) and bring 12 quarts home!
PRIZES:
Best soup story
First soup picked
Last soup picked

I just want to make sure I'm getting this right. We should each be bringing at least SIX containers that are FOUR CUPS each, correct?! I'm a little slow with the quart-to-cup conversions. ;p

Yes, a quart is 4 cups. For every 6 containers you bring, you will get to bring 6 different ones home. Thanks for asking!

Here's a soup I made today for the soup swap (except that I made it with venison italian sausage balls and parmesan and skipped the celery and lemon juice). Anyone else have their soup planned? Don't forget that you can make more than one soup! For every 6 quarts you bring, you can bring 6 different quarts home!

Oh, and a question for you guys....is anyone thinking of making vegetarian soup? I know of a couple of people that would be interested if there were some vegetarian options to trade.

I will bring vegetarian soup if other vegetarians are interested. Am wondering if I should come to this, or if I would be going home with my own soup?! ;)

I think I'm bringing carrot soup. Definitely no meat.

FYI, it seems at least 6 people will be bringing vegetarian soups! Unless anyone has any objections, strict vegetarians will go in line first so that they will get first pick of the veggie soups without us beast eaters taking all of it (or if anyone has a better suggestion, let me know!).

I know....this isn't about beer. This is going to be a fun event and I wanted all of you guys to be invited! NOTE-if you bring 6 quarts, you bring 6 home. If you bring 2 kinds of soup (12 quarts total), you will get to bring 12 quarts home. Feel free to bring a snack to share and a friend!
