How does one get started in the cheapest way avoiding using corrupt banks, and how secure are these from hackers and market manipulators?

Start with Bitcoin? Buying seems much more attractive then minimg right now. Avoid banks? Give someone Cash, Gold or whatever you have for Bitcoin. Join the Meetup or go to localbitcoins. Or do mining anyway. Best way to store? I recommend Armory. Just google it. Protect from manipilators? Sorry, there is no real protection here. As Bitcoin is still small it can be pumped and dumped. Becomes more difficult every day, however. Bitcoin is still beta, so don't invest more then you are willing to loose (potentially).

Almost forgot the best way to get them: Sell things for Bitcoin or accept them for services.
