Those of us who were fortunate enough to have participated in this meetup while Tony Gallippi was here can look back to what looks like an eternity to our small group meetings at Whisky Dicks. While we have all missed Tony and the meetings, we also have gotten to watch Tony's tremendous successes as he has grown BitPay into the leader in the Bitcoin world that it is today. Congratulations to Tony Gallippi and to the rest of the folks at Bitcoin!
I contacted Tony about scheduling meetings again and, so, have been given access to schedule a meeting. I also have been able to secure a location to meet at the Bright Learning Academy on 7300 Aloma Ave in Winter Park (near Goldenrod). The list of registered members is now a whopping 87 members and I would expect an even larger number once we start regular meetings again.
The facility we have available is a small private school for special needs students. The new (to us) facility we will be using has 4 to 5 rooms and I believe all of them could be available to us if needed. None of them are large enough to hold more than 20 people though. Since there are currently 87 registered members in the Bitcoin Orlando Meetup group there is the possibility that a large turnout will force us to have to split up into separate rooms. That number will be sure to grow once we start regular meetings and people bring their guests.
So I am proposing that we organize the MeetUp in a similar fashion as Bar Camp . If you haven't been to an Orlando Bar Camp then keep your ears open for the next one. Basically, the way it works is that anyone that wants to do a presentation on whatever Bitcoin related topic they wish can do so and I am asking that, if you can, you come prepared to give a presentation. Like in a Bar Camp the rooms will be available on a first-come-first -served basis. You can post here in the Meetup to reserve a spot ahead of time and there will be a signup sheet on-site for a room for future presentations. Bar Camp schedules half hour slots and that seems to work well so we can aim for that.
Here are just some of my ideas for topics:
Bitcoin, The Basics - What Is IT? (for newcomers)
Wallet Workshop (Discussion of all the wallet types), getting some installed etc
Programming and Coding
Accepting Bitcoin at your business
Bitcoin In Education (I'll be doing one spot)
Post your own ideas and/or topics
I look forward to seeing you all here!
