August Monthly Meeting

As our meetings keep getting larger and larger (we had another great meeting in July) I would like to again bring up the idea of using the format of a "bar camp" in order to present different topics at the same time.

As I mentioned before, I am proposing that we organize the MeetUp in a similar fashion as Bar Camp . If you haven't been to an Orlando Bar Camp then keep your ears open for the next one (they didn't have one in 2014 unforunately). Basically, the way it works is that anyone that wants to do a presentation on whatever Bitcoin related topic they wish can do so and I am asking that, if you can,  you come prepared to give a presentation. Like in a Bar Camp the rooms will be available on a first-come-first -served basis. You can post here in the Meetup to reserve a spot ahead of time and there will be a signup sheet on-site for a room for future presentations. Bar Camp schedules half hour slots and that seems to work well so we can aim for that.

So far Damon Smith has been doing this with presentations on how to explain Bitcoin in a hands on way. It's a great way for newbies to grasp the really awesome ways of howBitcoin works and what is so different about it. Everyone loves it. If anyone else has a topic they would like to discuss then all they need to do is come prepared and let me know when they get here that they would like to do another presentation at the same time (and try to be early if that's what you have planned).

Here are just some of my ideas for topics:

Bitcoin, The Basics - What Is IT? (for newcomers) - Damon Smith

Wallet Workshop (Discussion of all the wallet types), getting some installed etc

Legal Workshop

Programming and Coding

Accepting Bitcoin at your business

Bitcoin In Education

Bitcoin News/Links/Websites/Information

Bitcoin Internationally/Globally

Alt Coins

Bitcoin Startups

Post your own ideas and/or topics

I look forward to seeing you all here!

I have a great BTC Virtual Portal (3 CDs) giving the basics of BTC, investments/turn over in BTC, and resources for BTC backed seeds (biz start ups) plus BTC funds paying in BTC as often as weekly! Just Reply and I will tell you more about it (FREE for the asking). I also have "Edison's Revenge", his outstanding idea from a century ago for a decentralized, commodity based currency opposed to the "then new Fed Reserve Bank" fiat currency experiment. Even Henry Ford backed Edison's ideas! We ALL know where the fiat currency house-of-cards is going to go - to financial H*LL in a hand basket!

I had a wonderful time presenting my Bitcoin education tool at our meeting. I am comming to realize I have two things here. A free form set of tools for Bitcoin facilitation as well as a specific example of a story presented with these tools. Thank you so much for all the wonderful feedback in halping these tools to be developed to their greatest potential. My goal is to bild a library of tools, techniques, and facilitators to spread the concepts of bitcoin in a digestible, fun, and relateable manner.

    The presentation is availible here:

Robert, Yes indeed. I will definitely be able to present something polished. Does the location normally have a projection screen? I am working this weekend on a fully digital presentation so large groups can see it.

I would like to go first to lay out concepts before others go into details.

Great idea. I think break out sessions could get more intimate focused conversation done. A good wrap up session for all where each discussion is summarized would be nice to find out what you missed in the other sessions.

Its a fascinating history all of our own which before this morning I had no idea existed http://en.wikipedia.o... however knowing it is there, and the basis by which it was formed gives us a certain idea of what, at least, is possible under a first rate order...

Thanks for sharing this info. Although Canadian born, I had not idea they had a postal banking system! Interesting. Makes you wonder if we're not in the process of including it our country. And...would that be a good idea or not!

    Here is Greg's message

I'm working on announcing BarCamp next week, happening Saturday, September 27th, which will kick off Orlando Tech Week. We will have an amazing venue space this time around, with the Cheyenne Saloon, Poker Room, and Orchid Garden. I'm emailing you because I want to curate the best venue (the Cheyenne Saloon), and fill it with the best talks from a few tech meet ups in Orlando. I'm hoping you can think about the Bitcoin meet ups from the last year, and specifically a great talk that someone gave. I'm hoping that you could have this person give the 20-25 minute version of this talk at BarCamp on stage. Preferably it'd be something that would be assessable to non Bitcoin experts, and something that might make people want to come checkout your meetup. Can you think of a talk, and maybe get us in touch with the speaker?

I'll be using the opportunity to do a presentation on BungeeBones which will also be in preparation for my renting a table at the Disney convention about it.

One feature of BarCamp that I failed to mention at our Meetup is that Bar Camp attendees are informed that they can "vote with their feet". I want to encourage any of our members to do a talk about some aspect of Bitcoin but wouldn't want you to get blindsided by the fact people can get up and leave.

I am waiting to confer with Greg Pollack, the organizer, and would like to give him an idea of how many speakers we will raise. I would think it will still be first come first served as to the speaker roster so if we get someone there early (I'll do it) we could sign up everyone I think. We might be able to get one location to be Bitcoin related all or most of the day but moving to different locations isn't necessarily bad either.

I have a new development to announce and the timing of it is incredible. Right after we have held our first Meetup using the “Bar Camp paradigm" on Aug 21st I get a emssage from Greg Pollack, the organizer of the Orlando Bar Camp saying they are, indeed, going to have one this year on Sept. 27th. That is about a week before the Disney convention so I am thinking we hold our Meetup downtown at the Bar Camp. If there are no objections I will announce that meeting in the next day or two.

Greg is also asking for speakers. I may be mistaken but it looks like they added two new locations and, if so, there will be a total of six locations/topics with each having a 30 minute time slot to make the presentations.

GREAT! The idea of starting a facebook group for us came up last night. I know some are not comfortable with joining so this is not mandetory, just wanted to take the initiative and put this out there for those that are interested. Please reach out to me and I will figure out how to add you to the group on facebook. I think this is an excellent tool we can use for communicating amongst ourselves as well as to others.
