I'm not questioning my religion so much as what to call myself now that I've given up Christianity. I've been questioning its contradictions since I was a kid, and after enduring spiritual abuse for being gay, I eventually gave the whole thing up and started questioning religion in general a few years ago. The "atheist" label doesn't feel quite right yet. I prefer to think of myself, others, and nature as part of an evolving universal consciousness. I enjoy learning about the few good principles in religions, but I think the dogma is unnecessary and essentially harmful. I still enjoy gospel music and godly sayings but only on a cultural level--they feel like a part of my Black heritage instead of my personal belief system.
