Are you questioning your religion? If so, tell us about your struggle. If you have been a nonbeliever for a while, how long has it been? How did you arrive at your nonbelief?

I gave up on church in 1981, but still thought of myself as an ethnic Christian, tolerant of religious people. About 10 years ago I was a member of a very theologically and politically liberal Episcopal church. I was subsequently persuaded by "New Atheist" writers, that participating in religion gave credence to even fundamentalists. If fundies had not gained political power, I might have remained comfortable in a church where you can believe anything or nothing as long as you do good. I was delighted to discover a community of nonbelievers in Fayette County and my husband and I are now active members of PTC Humanists. We have also started a "bridge" group on Meetup/Blue Moon Group to spread the message of secularism.

Are you interested in connecting with others offline?

Sure.

Are you willing to contribute when you can through reasonable dues & freewill donations to help cover Meetup fees and other group costs?

I'd be delighted.

Introduction

I am an ally for Black Nonbelievers. As an active Democrat, I am concerned about the strength of the conservative religious influence of the black church.
