Meet-Up

We have two speakers for the evening to share their stories with us.  Plus we will have an opportunity to socialize and make connections during the evening.

JC Cannon - is a privacy advocate, author and instructor based in Washington D.C. He recently retired from a sixteen-year career at Microsoft where he spent twelve of those years focused on privacy. In his most recent role at Microsoft he performed privacy reviews of dozens of new products, services and websites. He monitored external privacy activities from regulators, researchers, industry and competitors, kept senior executives abreast of business-impacting privacy activities and developed action plans for product, policy and marketing teams to follow. He assisted with the review of privacy policies, standards, regulatory inquiries and privacy training. 

Cannon is a member of the IAPP Publication Advisory Board, W3C Tracking Protection Working Group, past VP of the University of Washington World Series Board and participates in numerous privacy events. He is the author of Privacy in Technology: Standards and Practices for Engineers and Security and IT Professionals, Privacy: What Developers and IT Professionals Should Know and contributed to the books Writing Secure Code and Windows Security Resource Kit. He is also the author of The Euclidian science fiction books.

Henri Makembe is Partner at Beekeeper Group, leading the Interactive Division. He has extensive experience with leading CMS platforms including WordPress, Expression Engine, Drupal, and Joomla.

Most recently, Henri was a client services manager at Blue State Digital, and before that was an account executive at DCI Group specializing in blogging, social networks, advocacy tools, web development, programming languages and databases. Prior to his stay at DCI, Henri was the director of web technologies at Be the Change, Inc – an organization whose mission is to craft a bold and innovative policy agenda rooted in the practical experience of social entrepreneurs and civic leaders. Henri has also served as the director of operations at Cary Silverman for DC Council – Ward 2, web developer at the National Association of Home Builders, and as senior developer at Doceus Inc.
