Planning Session for Upcoming Event: Day of Civic Hacking

BIT LA Member Jim Neusom will be leading this Break-out Session:

The goal is to recruit some of the tech talent from the group (programmers, coders, start-up and business enthusiast) to help with the production and planning of an upcoming (June 1st, 2nd) community event in response to the Call to Action on the President's National Day of Civic Hacking.

What: We Can Fix It - Urban Tech Block Party
in support of the National Day of Civic Hacking

In celebration of the National Day of Civic Hacking we will be highlighting the essence of Leimert Park's creative fortitude and striving to enhance Leimert Park's Digital Footprint as a catalytic Cultural Center for the preservation of the arts within our cultural Diaspora.
The goal for the weekend to coalesce the urban community around the benefits and opportunities that the new economy brings to our community. The Urban Tech Block Party will use free, publicly-released data, code and technology to solve challenges relevant to our neighborhood and city; to create awareness of the Leimert Vision Network, the Cultural Data Project, and other business development and social network sites in our community.

* We will be demonstrating the benefits and use of the Leimert Vision free community WiFi Network. The Leimert Vision Network is a free WiFi service that is intended to be a cyber connection to Leimert Park business and thirsty cultural enthusiasts from around the world. We will explore how the power of our collective support can make it a cyber destination of the entire Diaspora.

* In partnership with the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab, KAOS Network is developing the Leimert Park Phone Company to explore the possibilities of converting vestigial phone stands into community empowerment tools that can drive cultural connectivity and serve as a digital lifeline to our community.

* As part of the Cultural Data Project, a coalition of Urban tech professional organizations and non-profit groups will be working on identifying cultural and historical data points in and around the Leimert Park, Crenshaw Corridor.

* We will be discussing economic development strategies for Leimert Park and youth arts program partnerships at the Vision Theater Manchester Jr. Arts Center.

* There will be celebrities, politicians, community leaders, cultural drummers in the park and art exhibits on display for public enjoyment and entertainment.

Looks good! Only thing I would change is to spell out June completely in the days near the bottom. While "Jun" would work if space was at a premium, looks like there's plenty of room to spell it out. Nice work overall though!
