The main combo here is the combination of Polearm Momentum, Heavy Blade Opportunity, Polearm Gamble, Spear Push, Versatile Master (opening shove), and Blade Opportunist. The build doesn't really come into its own until level 12 when you can complete the combo. The defender is ideal in a choke point so any enemies move adjacent to the defender. Then he can make an opportunity attack (Feat: Polearm Gamble, and gets a +3 from his wis and an additional +2 from blade opportunist) and use the at-will opening shove to push the target back 2 squares (feat: spear push) and knock them prone (feat: polearm momentum).

The character has a dynamic weapon as well and a shield in case the situation calls for it. Many of the other powers are ways to impair movement.
