Bluegrass Guitar I Group Class with Michael Daves

Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26, Mar. 5, 12 (makeup class: Mar. 19); $250

This introduction to bluegrass style cover the basics of technique, rhythm playing, scales, pulse, timing, and tone. We will learn to play (and sing!) the melody of a classic song each week, adding simple ornamentation and accenting to impart stylistic authenticity and vocal-esque expression. Our goals will include developing skills at playing with others, transitioning between chords and melody, and taking basic improvised breaks. One class session will feature a professional bassist who will aid us in learning each instrument’s role in an ensemble as well as common cues to follow in jamming situations. Prerequisites are: comfort with basic chords (F, C, G, D, A, E, B7, Dm, Am, Em, Bm) and the ability to strum along and change chords in time to a mid-tempo bluegrass standard such as “Can’t You Hear Me Calling” by Bill Monroe or “Keep On The Sunny Side” by the Carter Family.

Classes run for six weeks each and are held on Tuesday nights at the Gowanus Arts Building (295 Douglass Street between 3rd and 4th Ave, Brooklyn NY) in Spoke The Hub’s main dance studio. Arrival time is 7:30pm, and classes run for an hour and a half starting around 7:40pm. Class sizes are limited to 10 students. Note that the studio is a third floor walk-up, so consider whether getting up and down the stairs will be a problem for you. Gowanus Arts is a 5-minute walk from the Union Street R train station, and about 8 minutes from the Atlantic Ave/ Barclays Center station ( R, N, D, B, Q, 2, 3, 4, 5 and LIRR).

You may reserve a spot for any scheduled class with a non-refundable $100 deposit. The balance of payment balance is due in full a week before the first class date, after which point refunds are not available. I accept payment by check, cash, or PayPal (use [masked]). There is a make-up date scheduled for each class to accommodate rescheduling of classes around weather emergencies or other special circumstances. In the case of inclement weather I will send out a notification via email and/or text by 4pm on the day of the class if it will be canceled. If you are running late or can’t make a class at the last minute, please let me know via text message.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
