Cedar Creek Lake/View the Bald Eagle Nest

View the bald eagle nest (maybe a half-mile from the ramp).  Hopefully the eagles will be around.  Paddle around the lake to get some exercise.  The feeder creeks will be blocked with ice.

I'll have my Jet Boil type stove.  Bring some water, beverage mix of your choice, and mug and I can heat the water.

There is a map of the lake and the roads under the Files menu...here.

Make sure you are dressed for the weather.  Read http://www.meetup.com/Blugrass-Canoe-and-Kayak-Group/messages/boards/thread/38771132 for more info.

Great paddle with old "coots" and new friends. Loved seeing the eagle nest and had fun with coot round-up. In some of the photos I'm posting I tried to show the coot's feet that are just made for running on the water. I can't imagine a better way to have spent the first day of 2014....as I sit here and watch the snow fall today.

It was nice to get out and bring the New Year in with a great paddle on a very nice little lake. Thankful for the sunshine as there was a breeze occasionally. Enjoyed meeting new folks and seeing the what appears to be an eagle's nest. Did see 2 eagles from a distance and also enjoyed watching the four deer bouncing and leaping down the hill and then they froze in harmony when they spotted us out on the lake. No worries and they continued their leaping off into the woods. Had never really paddled through ice and that was interesting. Tried not to stay in place too long so they wouldn't have to send out the ice breakers to free me LOL. Thanks for a great day on the water, and it was so good to see Michelle after a year of absence. Thanks to Dan for the ride for me and my Ibis from Glasgow. :) Hope to get up there more this year and paddle new water. Thanks guys for slowing down the pace so me and my short boat could keep up. :)

Only saw eagles from a distance, then the hunters moved in with their dogs and didn't see them anymore. Otherwise, nice weather for Jan 1. Little breeze, but stayed sunny.

Maryellen and I are coming together. We are aware of the time zone difference and plan to be there on time.

Good possibility that I may show up for this one...what a great way to start the New Year and see some folks I haven't seen in a while (Michelle)! Like over a year now!

Maya and I made a last minute decision to paddle Owlsley Lake where Paul found us. She had her little Kayak and knew she'd struggle to keep up with the long kayaks. Great day for a paddle. I just might join you if the weather is warm enough for the clothes that I have....but I might go no further than that nest!

We only did about 6 miles, and weren't moving that fast. Jim (Obie) met us there, but forgot his paddle.

Is the nest active? Proper clothes or not, I may end up coming just to see the nest, if it is active! Did you see more than one Eagle? How visible is it?

I thought that would get you out. I saw the nest and immediately thought it was bald eagle, and saw a silhouette that I thought was an eagle right next to it. Then we just about ran into the other eagle that was right in front of us less than 100ft. and it was no question it was a bald eagle. Don't know if they've laid eggs, but it definitely hadn't been there before. Looked a little small, but it is the first season, and they may still be working on it. Its out in that field in a lone tree. Need binoculars or long lens to get a look at it, but there is nothing to obscure it from the lake.

Malcolm assures me he'll go on this meetup no matter how cold, so I'll go ahead and set it up for Cedar Creek Lake. Will push the time back to noon. Come out and see the bald eagle nest, and hopefully eagles. Its not too far from the ramp. If you get cold, head back to the ramp whenever you want.

Going to wait a few more days on this one. No rain in the forecast, so the river has a small chance to get low enough. Long range high temp forecast is anywhere from 27 to 40 depending on the source. My guess is it will be too cloudy and cold.

I guess we can tell who has been naughty this year. Maybe you can rig something up and use those lumps of coal instead.

I don't think Santa brought me winter paddling gear either. Maybe next year. Happy Holidays everyone.

I don't think Santa is bringing me the kind of clothing I ought to have to safely paddle in winter temps.

If you do a river who picks us up? asks the Newbe from Roundstone

Mostly we do out and backs from one put-in/take-out. If going point to point, we normally 'set shuttle' - usual method is everyone drops boats at the put-in, drive all the cars to the take-out, then take a minimum number of cars back to the put-in. Needless to say, someone at the take-out has to take the boat(s) and driver(s) of the car(s) at the put-in back to top.
