June 21st is the date for the annual Ohio/Kentucky River Sweep to clean up trash along the Rivers. Our Pool 6 covers approximately 18 miles of the Mercer County’s Eastern and Northeastern border from Lock 7 above Brooklyn Bridge on highway 68 to Lock 6 below Oregon Landing ramp outside Salvisa. The ramp at Oregon Landing on Oregon Rd. will be the site for the Mercer County cleanup. Motor boats as well as paddlers will operate from this site and will cover as much of Pool 6 as possible. Please arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 am to register and launch around 9:00. Late arrivals will also be welcome, so if you cannot make it by 9:00, feel free to join us anyway until as late as 10:00 am.
A lunch will be provided to volunteers after the sweep, around 1:00 – 2:00 pm. T shirts, trash bags and gloves will be provided. Kayaks, along with paddles and life jackets will be at the site on a first come first serve basis for those who do not have a boat to paddle.
Sponsors thus far in support of this event are Apple Market, Beaumont Inn, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, The Kentucky River Authority, Lee’s Famous Recipe, Mercer County Road Department, and Save-A-Lot. Come on out and help with this worthwhile community service event on June 21st. The ramp on Oregon Landing can be reached by taking Oregon Rd. on the right off 127 North 1.02 miles past the North Mercer Water tower or following Oregon Rd. where it intersects with Cummins Ferry Rd. at Ebenezer Church. More Sponsors and Volunteers are always welcome. For questions text or call Nick Barker at (859)[masked] or e-mail to [masked].
