Just one quick question please. What is the data rate for the classic Bluetooth please?

    Thanks.

The next gen BTLE from Broadcom and Classic can do multiple simultaneous master/slaves. Already in testing.

Also: Apple won't give up more than 50% of the total air time to the BLE stack on the 2.4ghz radio. This means there could be at maximum 500Kbps total, across all connected peripherals, and around 10 total peripherals at low connection intervals. This works out to around 5KB/s per peripheral max on iOS if everything goes perfectly.
Wireless noise will drastically reduce this effective throughput.

Good to know, and very disappointing at the same time.

Mark, you mentioned one of the goals of the meetup was to show projects and hacks related to BLE. We just released an app that uses BLE to find your lost Fitbit.

Happy to answer any questions about it.

    Thanks again Per Ljung,

All BLE over-the-air signals are modulated at 1Mbps as specified by the BT SIG, but the effective payload data rate is much lower due to time division slots, packet overhead, BLE stack/os overhead, ... Page 20 in http://chapters.comsoc.org/vanc...
shows the time division going on between central & peripheral. Since BLE minimizes power, the radios are off between packets.

If CC2540 data rate is 1Kbytes/s then why Panasonic advertise on PAN1720 product performance 1Mb/s for the data rate,

    Thanks.

Broadcom can do up to 80Kbit/s which translates to 10KBytes/s and also has an onboard ARM M3. This is the BCM20732 SOC. The BCM20736 can do simultaneous master and slave and manage wireless charging which are features not supported via Nordic and TI.
You can find more information about the BCM20732 here: http://community.broadcom.com/w...

Hello, I was wondering how fast the BLE transfer the data serially please?

    March 25

    • Per L.

I measure about 4kB/s (payload) for iOS to iOS sending[masked]kB using 132B packets, and about 2.5kB/s using 20B packets.

      TI claims (measured) 5.9kB/s for cc2540 to cc2540 sending 20kB using 20B packets http://processors.wik...
      (but their screenshot shows 1kB/s)

Nordic claims (theoretical max) 10kB/s from Nexus4 to nRF51822

    Looking forward to tonight's meetup!

Last month we released a simple and fast BLE-enabled contact sharing app (http://AppStore.com/Slip). If there's time I would love to give a quick demo.

Interested in using BLE to distinguish definitively between locations that are close together (within several feet of each other). Small BLE devices appear too subject to signal variations to do this. Love to talk to anyone who has experience using specialized devices or triangulation.

    Hello BLE enthusiasts !
We just released Bubble, an iOS API that uses Bluetooth LE to simplify phone to phone nearby interactions : http://bubbleapi.com
Is there any way we could present the project at the meetup ?

I can help, let's talk about this tomorrow night.

Hi Everybody, this is just a friendly reminder that this meet up is technically focussed, and not for recruiting or technical co-founder searches. We are going to provide a place to focus on platform agnostic technical issues and projects related to BLE. Hopefully we'll all save a ton of time and become super inspired by sharing information!
