Board & Card Games Marathon @ West LA -- August 24

  • August 24, 2013 · 12:00 PM
  • St. Bede's Church

We're back!!!  It's another big day of board games and card games.... and everyone is welcome!  This is an all-day event, so feel free to come for a quick game or two, or stay for the long haul.

If the only games you know are Monopoly, Scrabble, and Trivial Pursuit, you're in for a treat!  Come check out some of the best games you've never heard of: build ancient empires, escape from a pirate fortress, race robots, battle zombies, connect railroads, steal letters to spell words, bluff trivia, and more!  We'll have TONS of board games & card games to choose from (well, it feels like tons when we're loading the car!).  You're also welcome to bring your own games to share.

We'll have game captains on hand to lead games, introduce members, and explain rules, so don't worry if you haven't heard any of these games. Part of the fun is learning! Board games are a great "thinking person's relaxation" and offer much funny and odd fodder for conversation.

WHO?

This event is great for newcomers and veterans alike. Meet some new friends, bring a friend or three if you like, and get ready to have some fun! IT'S OKAY TO "JUST SHOW UP"!

TIME?
The event starts at NOON and goes til 9 PM. There will be a prize drawing at 5 PM where four lucky winners get... well, prizes!

We'll round out the evening with a large game of Werewolf (deduction, bluff, and hidden agendas for ten to thirty players).

COST?
$10 adults, $5 for kids 12 and under.

ANYTHING ELSE?
There are plenty of places to grab food nearby. People tend to get dinner between 5 and 6 (after the prizes and before Werewolf).  There are some snacks for sale on-site..

Hope to see you there!

Fourteen tables of games going at once, from the silliest party games to the deepest brainburners. New Gen Con releases included Forbidden Desert, Trains, and the expansion to Lords of Waterdeep. Sixteen player Werewolf featured two wolves, two vampites, and a bunch of villagers with no clue how to read the bad guys. The next big games day is September 28!

I had a really great time, thanks for organizing. I'm looking forward to coming out more often for games!

By the way, I'm having a housewarming party this Sunday at my new apartment in Westwood. If you get out of the Con early, or if you want to spice up your social contacts, please send me your e-mail address and I'll add you to the guest list. This is a child-friendly event, family and friends are welcome. Hope you'll make it!

We may have a few used games, free to good homes, donated by our members. This is the first time we're trying this expiriment, so if you have a game that needs to leave your collection and isn't worth selling, save it from the landfill and drop it off on Saturday.

Sounds fun! Do we bring the games we'd like to play?

Sounds great! There are several games I have been dying to try, so maybe you'll have one in your collection! I'll also bring a couple of my own... looking forward to it!

A lot of the games you tried last month (Spot-it, Apples to Apples, Dixit, Perudo) will be on the tables... hopefully you've spent the last thirty days honing your skills. And if you want to try more new stuff, there will be dozens of games you've never heard of on the table, from quick and goofy to epic and brainburning. Whatever you like, we've got games for your tastes!
