Newbies Night is organised for newbie who wants to volunteer!

Requirement: We Teach You, You Teach Others.

OUR MOTIVE (don't say we never tell you): Our MOTIVE is that, after we happily taught you the games, you will be happy to contribute to our boardgames community by teaching the others. (basically, we are recruiting volunteers for Game On!)

After the Newbie Night, we will required you to join our closed-group on Facebook where we will spam invite and spam encourage you to help organise games activities for the community (eg. Games Sundays @ Libraries, Family Games Day, Games Sunday for Kids, Games GokON!)

and for the less fortunate (eg. Games Tours @ Children Homes, Old Folks Home etc).

And when you graduate from Newbie to Gamer, you can come help organise future Newbies Nights and even our Games Sundays. And become organisers for our Games Tours! And become our Game On Chairman!!! (we've got big plans for you)

If you are HAPPY with the above, quickly RSVP now, we try to keep it to 1 volunteer to 5 newbies (so that we can psycho you).

What Games To Expect: Click OUR GAMES! For ice-breaking/ beginners games, expect Ugly Dolls to Ubongo, Bang to Blokus, Snorta to Saboteurs. For gateway games (next time, not for this session), expect Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride etc. For heavy euro games, see HEW on the calendar.

Q: I've only played Risk, Monopoly(deal), Taboo, Chua Dai Di, Scrabble before, can I come?
A: Yes, you noob. Newbies Night is for you.

Q: But I don't know anyone, can I come?
A: Yes, don't miss the Ice Breaking games! If you have no time to eat dinner beforehand, you can just dabao and eat it during the ice-breaking.

Q: Can I leave earlier?
A: Yes, but not in the middle of a game.

Q: Silly games?
A: Heehee...

Q: Can I just watch and not play?
A: No, we need to be silly together.

  • Tianyun

    okay, see you all later!

    January 5, 2012

  • Tianyun

@ Kelvin: No, you cannot come look look see see, because everyone who attends need to play, bystanders to watch us play ice-breaking games, not welcomed. Do RSVP and commit to join if you want to come. Please see FAQ:
Q: Can I just watch and not play?
A: No, we need to be silly together.

@ Zanlun: Yah, we got fire extinguisher, but there is no windows in the room, and you can open the door without getting electrocuted.

    January 3, 2012

  • Kelvin

Hi can I drop by to look look see see. cause as I will be at toa payoh to transit. hehe

    January 3, 2012

  • Zan

Got fire extinguisher? I may need to break the window...

    1 · January 2, 2012

  • Tianyun

Okay, we now have a total of 9 hosts and 9x5=45 newbies, the room is going to be very cramp, low in oxygen and personal space, which makes it all the better for knowing new friends! Look forward to see you all at our first Newbie Night!

    January 2, 2012

  • Tianyun

Hi Anne, no problem, I will try my very best to pursuade the newbies to host the next newbie night, but it would probably not be in this 2 months. Do come for our Games Sunday 5 Feb @ Toa Payoh Library instead!

    January 1, 2012

  • Anne

Before I get despised just in case I do not turn up, I had better inform that I will have to back out of the newbie's night..unwillingly though...due to work circumstances. Will drop by to watch the activities if "let off" earlier. I hope there will be another round of newbie's night...Please do:) thanks.

    December 31, 2011

  • Tianyun

Hi Morris, since you understand that we are recruiting volunteers, you come for this one. Those who misunderstood may decide to leave when they reach.

    December 31, 2011

  • Morris

So, does that mean I should probably gatecrash the event, or wait for an available spot in the list?

    December 31, 2011

  • Tianyun

*Gasps* To newbies on the waiting list, no... no... all except Morris answered our MOTIVE wrongly! We are RECRUITING volunteers, games facilitators! We teach you, you are required to volunteer to teach others at our events or at other meetups. If you are okay with that, you are welcome to gatecrash (please prepare a forfeit item to perform)

    December 30, 2011

  • Tianyun

Hello Newbies, we have finally confirmed it with the library, 5 Feb 2012, will be the 1st Games Sunday you can volunteer your newbie skills to, quickly check your schedule and RSVP now.

    December 28, 2011

  • Tianyun

    Good start Colin!

    December 28, 2011

  • Colin L.

Tianyun... Problem with stomache humming exercise is that all I am getting out is.......... Hungry, Hungy Hippos!!!! Ah wel, back to the drawing board... :P

    1 · December 27, 2011

  • Shovel T.

Hi=) Thanks! Will be there to learn some fun, have some fun and then pass on the fun=) See you people there!

    1 · December 27, 2011

  • Shashwat C.

ah okay I'll leave it out, I just really like that game ^_^.

    1 · December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

by the way, which Civilization are you talking about? Aren't all games with "Civilization" 2-4 hours game? Those are for Advanced Newbies!

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

Hi Shashwat Chetan, for this Newbie Night Level 1, we have prepared the games to teach, so you don't have to bring any games. However, after that, you are welcomed to help plan for the next Newbie Night, when you can offer to teach Civilization

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

Shim Yen Nee and Chalene, I am afraid you answered the rsvp question wrongly, our MOTIVE is not just to Make Friends Play Games (that's the objective of our Games Sunday, not Newbie Night), do read again and see if you like our MOTIVE.

    December 27, 2011

  • Shashwat C.

Thanks alot! I'm new to board games but I've played civilization quite a bit so could I get that for the meet?

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

Maysam Torabi and Takadanobaba, both of you did not answer the RSVP question, if you do gatecrash, you are to perform forfeit immediately.

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

Hi Shovel Tay and Shashwat Chetan, congratuation for answering my RSVP question with our correct MOTIVE, you are welcomed to come for our Newbie Night (despite being still on the waiting list), we reserve special volunteer seat for you.

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

oh good, now it is really explicitly explicit.

    December 27, 2011

  • Kun X.

It takes a couple of reading to get it this is for interested volunteers only. The new updated title looks good.

    December 27, 2011

  • Shashwat C.

Hey, I'm on the waiting list right now but can I still attend the event?

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

Ohh, so my guess is correct! Nobody reads the MOTIVE! I must put that up to the first line! Anyway thanks CKX, I think we just might have a Games Sunday - Newbie Special, with mass ice-breaking games and self intro time. This Jan, Games Sunday is cancelled because it falls on 1 Jan, and the C.C. is not opened.

    December 27, 2011

  • Kun X.

Ok, I guess I mistook this for your usual regular Game Sundays with a focus on newbies.

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

And all hosts are to play my mass ice-breaking games, which are going to be very childish.

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

Hi CKX, did you received my email (anyway, i pasted the email above)? All hosts will be volunteers and are supposed to multi-task: psycho newbies while teaching games, while nonchalantly hum (all at the same time, gotta use your stomach) melody with subliminal messages of "I will join Game On, I will organise the next Games Tour, I will organise the next newbie night, I will organise Games Sunday, I will become Game On chairman"...

    December 27, 2011

  • Kun X.

Need another host? Actually I don't mind teaching some level 1 games too (did that for lots of people!)

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

If you are starting to regret, regret no more! Unrsvp Now!

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

This Newbie Night is actually our club(Game On)'s new strategy of recruiting newbie volunteers to help organise our future activity (for other newbies and our community). There will be a compulsory 15min talk on VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY on that night, our Game On volunteers will psycho you while you play games (plus background music with subliminal messages), and you will be pressured to join our Game On closed-group on facebook after Newbie Night, as our official Game On volunteer/ organiser.

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

Hi newbies, What started up as a plan for a small cosy little Newbie Night of 10 newbies, has grown to become quite a big Freshmen Orientation of 30 with a few on the waiting list. I thought, maybe it's because many of you do not know our MOTIVE. My first invitation might not be clear enough, so I better explain it here as explicitly as possible:

    December 27, 2011

  • Tianyun

However, if you are newbie and you really want to come. You can gatecrash. But you will forfeit immediately and perform something funny for us to see. Brave newbie.

    December 24, 2011

  • Tianyun

Hi, the rsvp is full, I think we have reached our maximum. Hope everyone will show up. No shows will be despised forever.
