  • This location is shown only to members

Date: 22 Sept (Saturday Night)

Time: 7pm - 9pm

Venue: Toa Payoh Town Park. Game On! Tent (come & fill up our 2 tents)

Objective: Teach you how to play San Guo Sha 三国杀! We have 7 sets, 2 diy sets in English. (Sanguosha only, no other games)

Strategy: 8 of us will be dressed in ancient China costume to attract (国色) the public, confuse (蛊惑) and lure (流离) them to our Game On! Tent. And you, do you want to come (挑衅)? Come play and take photo with us! It will be funny to see people in costume gathered around a table to play cards.

Other Highlights: We are only two of the many stalls of Toa Payoh CCC Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival of mooncakes, lanterns, riddles, performance, Chang'e and her bunnies, lucky draw etc. You can purchase $2 coupons there to collect goodie bags and enter lucky draws.

Organiser: Game On!

My apologies for not turning up. I actually did turn up at Toa Payoh at 7pm, but got totally lost finding the place. By the time I worked out where the Park was, it was 7.45pm- no joke! A combination of bad map (your above map points to TP MRT for location), bad luck (taxi driver dropped me off at the furthest MRT exit from the park, although we didn't know it at the time), and my totally hopeless sense of direction- if I should have turned left, I will somehow work out to turn right instead and get even more lost!!!!

Hi Adrian, sorry about your stressful night under the moon. Actually the park is just opposite the bus interchange/ mrt. I sent an email to all participants on Friday with how to go, I think if the email you used for your meetup account is not your frequently checked email then you might not have gotten it. We are thinking of organising a follow up small group san guo sha session for some interested participants of these 2 sessions. If you are still keen, let us know, we will invite you and give you 5 teachers to 1 newbie training.

We are hosting this SGS meetup in conjunction with Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival organised by Toa Payoh CC. In case you are new to this festival (and you wonder who is Chang'e, and why do we have rabbit heads), you can read more about this Chinese festival and the cute and weird myth of rabbits, woman flying to the moon and a man cutting trees. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Autumn_Festival

Sanguosha is a game based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms (half historic, half fictional story), you can find out more about it in many ways (books, comics, wiki etc). You can also read it in English with reference to the card game on this Singapore Blog -
San Guo Sha Cardgame English Walkthrough. http://sanguoshaenglish.blogspot.sg/#!/2012/08/chapter-1-three-heroes-swear.html

Hi there, I'm a total newbie at board games but I'd like to learn a strategy game. Is this for me?

    1 · September 6, 2012

    • Helene F.

Oh IMHO strategy games don't get more addictive than this one. Don't say we didn't warn you! ;)

Thanks for replying, Helene. I'll give it a go then =)
