BnBN: Mage Knight

I have a copy of mage knight and have been wanting to play it for a while. Have played a few solo sessions and read the rule books but haven't found others to play it with yet, so thinking of trying to get a meet-up together for this.

4 player max.

Thanks for hosting Mage Knight - even though we may not have gotten all the rules right, it certainly gave me a flavor for the game. And I know understand why it is polarizing to people. It's sort of a Tailsman on steroids - and likely appeals to that crowd.

In thinking about it some more, one of the things I think that bothers me most about the game's design is that all of the random happens just before the decision making takes place (Random Opportunity). That is different than traditional Random or weighted Outcomes. Because it occurs before decision making, it leads to potentially ugly Analysis Paralysis. What many might feel is a puzzle to solve, and probably enjoy about it. But for me really it just slows down game play and makes we wish for an egg timer on players (and imo that isn't fun).

For my own tastes, there are a number of games that deliver something similar, and I think do a better job it. Even so, I really wanted to try it, and y'all were a great crowd.

I probably should have picked an easier game for my first time hosting. Sorry about that guys. But hopefully you at least got a taste of it to for future reference.

I also have this game, but I've never gotten around to learning how to play. I'll try to read the rule books before showing up, but there's only so much I can learn from just sitting and reading.

Timur, I learned to play by watching Ricky Royal's fantastic videos on BGG (or youtube). And if you decide you want to run a second game to accommodate the wait list let me know and I'll bring mine although I'll be playing something else. I've only ever soloed MK, but I understand that there is considerable downtime with four players.
