What are humanity's greatest challenges?

This meetup was based on Omar's idea, and you'll find his full post in the discussion section. Omar writes "Many of us are stuck in a vicious autopilot work-consume-sleep cycle, some others are in a complete trance. We hardly have the time to reflect on the high level state of our condition and where we are headed as a nation, or species for that matter. It would be a worthy exercise to sit down as a group and hash out the truly most pressing issues we are faced with today, and come up with a list of general topics that can serve a springboard for future discussions."

Let's schedule it for now for Monday the 17th at 7 PM at Kous Kous Morrocan Bistro*, (and if the poll indicates another day is better, then we'll change it). And to use Omar's words once more, let's try to avoid the predictable dichotomies and camps. Bring a couple of your highest pressing issues, and maybe some facts to educate the rest of the group. Let's try to apply a think tank mentality and see what we can come up with when we contemplate some of the worlds most important problems. *Just a reminder - Moumen, the owner, is actually a friend of the group and enjoys participating in our discussions, so he is very happy to have us there, and there's absolutely no pressure to make a purchase. I personally haven't bought anything there and he's quite okay with that. =)

All said and done, I had a great time last night. Thanks for sharing that bottle of wine with me Janeen and I really enjoyed the food at the restaurant. I look forward to our next meetup to continue our discussions. It was refreshing to debate issues with other individuals!

It's interesting how discussions have their own sort of life. This one was a bit old and grumpy.
At times it was more "interesting" than "enjoyable"......but I enjoyed it anyways.
I am looking forward to the next one

The majority of the group was wonderful, all except for one person who unfortunately lacked basic social skills and the tact to get his point across without making an ass of himself. I loved the diversity and the discussions otherwise. I look forward to see everyone again in the next one - minus one.
Kudos to Walid for organizing this event. I happen to know that he put in a lot of passion and effort behind the scene, and I appreciate it deeply.

A non-member crashed the discussion, and unfortunately his somewhat dominating discussion style diminished the meetup for other members. However, he does not intend to return, and to avoid such occurrences in the future, we will not be publicizing the exact location of the meetup on the website. That issue aside, it was a pleasure meeting you all, and I'm looking forward to our next meetup.

Good, stimulating discussion, although maybe a little too much aggressive energy. Sometimes when people become tired they lose it a little. Hopefully we can overcome that. Overall a good group of people. I had a tasty dinner at Kous Kous beforehand, including my first glass of Moroccan wine. Look forward to future events.

Thank you Walid for creating this group. Interesting group of folks with diverse ideas.....and nobody came to blows, which is a good sign. :)

I got very tense, and felt it was dominated mostly by only a few people. Got a sense of anger, stress, and ego's; including my own.

Just so you all know, the restaurant is below street level. You'll see a parking structure to the left of the restaurant's building, and a set of stairs going down from street level to the restaurant.

lots of parking on the street. Meters are free after 6pm

If you are having dinner at Kous Kous, they can validate parking for the parking structure next door.
