Veganism

Article for discussion: “Me, Give up meat? Vegan Diets Surging in Popularity: The pros (and a few cons) of choosing a vegan diet” by Angela Haupt

http://health.usnews.com/health-news/articles/2012/07/24/me-give-up-meat-vegan-diets-surging-in-popularity

This discussion will likely wonder to topics involving animal welfare, genetically modified foods, the organic industry, a/o what really consistutes a healthy lifestyle and diet. A primary point: Does there appear to be a higher percentage of people in the vegan community who also subscribe to anti-GMO and anti-vaccine beliefs? If so why is that?

Jared Meyer, founder of 'San Diego Vegans', will be joining us.

Some Distinctions:
Dietary vegans, or strict Vegetarian, refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat but, in contrast to Ovo-lacto vegetarianism, also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances.

Ethical vegans not only follow a vegan diet, but oppose the use of animals or animal products for any purpose. Environmental Vegetarianism refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the harvesting or industrial farming of animals is environmentally Sustainability.

Picture: The frequency of the term “vegan” over the last few decades according to google’s ngram feature.

Food & Beverage: I’ll provide wine & light snacks. Please feel free, but not obligated, to bring something to share.

Excellent conversation. Thanks for having me. I was hoping to have more discussion on veganism, but the tangents were entertaining and informative.

Sorry for signing up and missing it, I remembered how much I hate homo sapiens. Instead, I watched some strange larva inch its way across my kitchen table.

Thanks a lot for hosting Emily. It was super interesting and inspiring. Now I decrease my consumption of dairy products. And chocolate. Maybe.

Thursday actually works better for me.
Should we bring munchies? (I know, I know, munchies was a side subject of an earlier Meet-up topic).

I do want to remind everyone that due to a really important lecture that I have to attend I had to reschedule the event to *THURSDAY*. I hope this doesn't inconvenience you too much. Looking forward to seeing you then!

Hi! Could anyone bring a few extra chairs? A couple have been broken lately. Not to give the impression that these discussions get particularly wild ;)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
