Do we have a free will?

As much as I would love to spend the next 2.5 hours writing an essay on determinism and dualism, such an effort would most likely result in something resembling the self-aggrandizing facebook posts of a sophomore philosophy major with a C average and a hard-on for Descartes.

Are you religious, agnostic, atheistic etc? What do you believe? A) How does your belief shape your world/philosophical view? B) How do you view scripture/revelation? C) What is your opinion on evolution?

I am comfortably agnostic because, simply put, I don't know and neither do you. Nonetheless, I was raised in a religious home and I know the Christian Bible quite extensively. I also believe that evolution (as the scientific community understands it) is factually established and accurate. Sadly, charismatic pseudo-scientists, Young Earth Creationists, and much of middle America have grossly distorted its definition to the point that evolution in the colloquial sense shares little resemblance to the definition accepted by the scientific community.

Do the ends justify the means? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Not necessarily.

What is your political orientation (far left, left, center, right, far right…libertarian, apolitical etc.)

I'm an economist. My relationship with politics is an asexual one.

Have you ever stabbed somebody with a fork just because he/she didn’t agree with you?

No but I once bit someone during a debate. I think I was 12.

Introduction

My name is Adam. I'm 22 and I study economics (specifically development economics in Sub-Saharan Africa). I just moved back to San Diego so I am looking to meet some interesting people who enjoy discussions and debate.
