It will be near full moon on Saturday Night let's get a night view of Boulder and, if it's not a cloudy night enjoy the moon. Let's wish upon a star and hope for a "Starry Starry Night" (Don Mclean) and that it's a "Marvelous Night for a Moondance" (Van Morrison)
Moon rises at 7:50 and the moon is close this month so it should be a good show. Hike is moderate/strenuous. Meet at the right of the Ranger Station by the rock.
The Royal Arch Trail begins at the Ranger Station in Chautauqua Park and heads up the closed access road, which skirts the open grassy meadows of the lower foothills. After a quick drop into a gulch the trail climbs steadily through coniferous forests to a sandstone arch. Although not as big as most arches in southern Utah, Royal Arch is quite an impressive sight, especially with the City of Boulder as a backdrop. The view from the arch is quite impressive. You can look down on Boulder or across to the Third Flatiron, a popular ascent for many Boulder climbers. Keep an eye out for raptors that nest in this region during the spring.
Bring a headlamp if you have one, though we may not need, water and have a good pair of hiking shoes. After we can stop by Southern Sun or Under the Sun for brew and eats.
