This group was started approximately two years ago by a member of My People Connection and we'd like to continue the message. Book Club Lite is about enjoyable reading for WOMEN who don't want to read epic novels. I did that in college for credit, now I want to read for pleasure. Some have been current best sellers, mysteries, and even some resurrections; both hardback and paperback, and some on tape or audio... even kindle.
Books we've read in the past include: "What the Dead Know", "Eat, Pray, Love", "Jane Austin in Boca", "Delta Wedding", "Water for Elephants", "Friday Night Knitting Club", "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society", "Love Stories in This Town", "The Interior", and "The Girls from Ames", "The Help", "Loving Frank". Future selections will be: "Hardly Knew Her" by Laura Lippman, and "The Lovely Bones". 2010 is open right now but there are some exciting plans lined up.
There is a MINIMUM of $1 to help me cover the costs of the event. More is always appreciated as the annual Meetup fee is $144.
I'd also like to thank you for some of the wonderful suggestions for books and authors that are new to me. I'm getting some great ideas. They are mostly "lite" reading. We're here to enjoy ourselves, not slog through some boring, awful tome. No one will love every book. Everyone can't dislike every selection... well, I hope not, anyway.
This is important: YOU MUST READ THE BOOK IF YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEND THE MEETUP. If you can, try to finish it. It's not always possible, but we don't want to ruin the ending for you at the Meetup.
If you are planning to attend, just indicate a "YES", it is never necessary to respond "NO" for a Meetup event unless you have to cancel. I receive email for every response or comment. The groups fill up so fast, please join the waiting lists. You can change your mind.
Because of the limited number of seats at events, I'm requesting that members send an email if they are unable to attend BEFORE the meetings. Last minute cancellations come up. I understand and will never hold that against anyone. "No shows" are unfair to wait-listed people and anyone who is a "no show" more than twice in row will be dropped.
Join Borders Rewards and receive discount coupons - they do come weekly. You can then email Darren at Borders (cdgreen44@gmail.com) or ask for him at the store (818.728.6593). He'll order any books for you using your Borders rewards (or not). You can arrange a pick-up at your local Borders store.
We've tried it a few times and it was fun.... so let's do it again.
Before we meet for this month's Book Club Lite Meetup at Borders, let's have dinner first one block west at Marie Callenders. Although not the most exciting place in the world, they do have enough food choices for almost everyone. Read more
