Meeting #2 to Discuss Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter

We will be meeting at Tap and Growler at 7 pm unless something changes in the next 24 hours, which I'm not anticipating it will. I'll be calling them tomorrow afternoon around 3 to get some seats reserved and will be taking a final count of whose coming around that time. Let me know if you have any questions!!

Hello everyone! Thank you for another great meeting last night! For those who couldn't make it, we definitely missed you but totally understand that things happen. Hopefully we will see you all at our November meeting. We discussed what book we will be reading for December, and have decided that we will go with Alice Munro's short story collection called "Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories.' Munro was just awarded the Nobel Prize for her work and we all decided that December has the potential to get hectic and crazy with the holidays, so some short stories would give us some flexibility. We have yet to pick a date for December so I will ask you all to leave some dates in the Discussion section of the page that might work for you and we will finalize at our November meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! I hope everyone loves the next book "A Cuckoos Calling" by JK Rowling. See you in November!

A delightful group of friendly, intelligent women! It says good things about a group when it is possible for each person to find space to say something, and others listen. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy your company. I liked the venue for a small group. We could all see and hear each other. Wondering how it would work with more people.
    Thanks Roxanne!

I hate to do this, but I have to skip our first meeting. After having guests the last two weekends and starting a new job today, I'm just wiped out. If anyone else can't make it tonight but still wants to talk about the book, let me know--I'd still love to talk about the book!

I have to change my commitment to a "maybe." I will actually change it to a no for now... We are dealing with the flu in my house. I hope you all avoid it--it's been terrible!

Kelly, I too have heard good things about Tap and Growler. I'm headed there this weekend so I'll scope it out and report back!

Library or market of choice group rooms both sound good. Mary's club house sounds great also. Only other places I can imagine would be community centers or churches - maybe these are too far from the brew concept.
I'm enjoying the book's audio version.

I've heard good things about The Tap and Growler. Cozy atmosphere, good seating and a large selection of beer, wine and nonalcoholic drinks on tap.

Am VERY MUCH enjoying the book! Yay! Such a good choice. As to where to meet, after we try out a few more central locations and feel the pulse of the group, we could also look into my apt's club house, lots of couches, a gas fireplace, a not-so-little kitchen. The downside is it's on Cal Young Rd., a mile or so from Coburg, not terribly convenient. Thought I'd throw it out as an idea. PS: It's free.

Hello everyone! Seeing as our meeting is a week from today I just thought I would check in with everyone. I hope you all are enjoying the book (I definitely am!) and are looking forward to meeting up soon. At this point I wanted to open this up to some discussion about where we may want to meet on the 21st. It's looking like we may have a larger group so I am going to put some phone calls out to the library and Market of Choice about possibly using one of their group rooms. That being said, your suggestions are still much appreciated in case these don't pan out. Happy reading!

I lucked out and found a used copy of Beautiful Ruins at J Michael's bookstore. I hope everyone has found a copy of the book for themselves. I can't wait to discuss it with you all!
