Meeting #12 to Discuss Room by Emma Donoghue

Hello everybody! Unfortunately, the library did not have the Book Club in a Box for Jump Off Creek by Molly Gloss. So, we will be going with our second choice which is Room by Emma Donoghue, which unfortunately is not supplied by the library. Please let me know if you have any questions. Look forward to seeing you all in August and happy reading!

Guess I'm at that age where I have to write everything down if I want to remember it. Are we reading Gone Girl or Jump Off Creek for next time?

I found a copy of Gone Girl at Goodwill today for $2.50. I have one to read but, heck, I bought it! I'll sell it to anyone for what I paid. Thought I'd post this and hope that people open the post, even though the post is for our last meeting. [masked]

It was great to be in the company of fellow book-lovers! And to think that otherwise I would have missed the very moving experience of reading ROOM. Thank you all!

Lively discussion. I checked out the progress of making Room into a film. I can't imagine how they will do it! Room was a book that stayed with you after completion. Uncomfortable, yes.

Happy Tuesday everyone! So it's looking like we will have a large group tonight, which is awesome! I'll try to get to the Beanery early enough to get some space carved out. See you all this evening!

It would actually be really appropriate if we end up being really cramped in a small space.

I got the book yesterday, but can't come.

Shoot, I read jump off creek and there's little time to find and read the room. I'll show up anyway. I'm on the wait list for a field trip, so I don't know.

Hey babblers, we have to pick a book for 8/26 discussion. My recollection of the thinking was we would pick Wild for July because summers are busy and lots had already read it. Although summers are busy, another view is that late summer can get a little lazy and perfect book reading opportunities abound. I'll throw out a few ideas for (hopefully) dramatic, dense books: The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, an Aussie -- book is about several decades in London, entwined with a death and, well -- secrets! The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd (author of The Secret Life of Bees), inspired by true story of the life of a woman, starting when she is young (about 1805), and her slave, and the decades of evolution to becoming a crusader for abolitionist. (Maybe a little heavy?) Anyone else? (PS: I have read neither book)

I've heard great things about The Invention of Wings -- is it out in paperback yet?

It looks like it is out in paperbook but there's 106 holds on the multiple copies at the library. Mmmmm? No paperbacks on Ebay either. Thoughts anyone?
