Ender's Game - Meeting #1 (Sep. 30)

It's time! Most of us have already read this classic Sci-Fi novel, winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards, so let's chat about it before the movie comes out. Two meetings will be held, one on the Sep. 30 and another on Oct. 2. Please choose one only.

Here is the synopsis for those who have not read the story -
"In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin is drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training.

Ender's skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play at mock battles in zero gravity. Yet growing up in an artificial community of young soldiers Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry from his peers, pressure from the adult teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders. His psychological battles include loneliness, fear that he is becoming like the cruel brother he remembers, and fanning the flames of devotion to his family. Is Ender the general Earth needs?"

If anyone is a Bill Bryson fan, I have two tickets to his talk on Tuesday night, Oct 8, at the Sac library. Tickets are free, but they were limited and I doubt if there are any left. Would anyone like to go with me?

Does anyone have a copy of this book they could lend me? I could come pick it up at your house and return it at the meeting.

I put it on reserve at the library immediately, but I am #61 our of 61 requests, so I probably will not get it for months. I couldn't borrow it digitally either.

I was going to try 2nd hand book shops next, but would rather read a loaner. Thank you.

I'm on the waitlist and I know there is a second date option but I have a conflict so I would definitely be willing to host a second meetup for this same date and time.
